Kathmandu: Prince Dahal of Nepal has been defeated in the badminton tournament at the Paris Olympics 2024. In a Group 'P' match completed this morning at Court No. 2 of La Chapelle Arena in Paris, France, Dahal was defeated by Ireland's Hat Nguyen, ranked 43rd in the world, in straight sets 21-7 and 21-5.

Prince Dahal's performance in the ongoing Paris Olympics has been challenging. The Irish player secured victory in just 35 minutes, winning the first set in 17 minutes and the second set in 18 minutes. Nguyen scored six points in the first set and four points in the second set on Dahal's service, while collecting 15 points in the first set and 17 points in the second set on his own service. This marks Nguyen's second consecutive participation in the Olympics, having also played in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

This defeat marks the second loss in a row for Prince Dahal, who is ranked 172nd in the world. In his first match of the group stage, Dahal was defeated by Denmark's Viktor Axelsen, who is ranked in the top two positions in the world, in straight sets 21-8 and 21-6.

In the final match of the group stage, Prince Dahal will compete against Misa Zilberman of Israel, who is ranked 58th in the world, tomorrow. Group 'P', which is considered difficult, includes four players including Dahal.

Badminton is making its debut as a sport for Nepal in the Olympics. Since the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, this is the first time Nepal has participated in badminton at the Olympic Games.
